What would you say was the biggest barrier you overcame when finally making it as a professional comic writer?

I dunno, they’ve never asked. and i cowrote an episode of DA VINCI’S DEMONS (ep 206) and hope to write more. TV is fun. Movies are fun.

i don’t know. as there’s only one more wednesday left in the month i’d bet next wednesday. then there’ll be two in july, and at least one in august.

i started in kansas city, so i’d say no, geography doesn’t dictate much at all. it’s good to get to conventions from time to time to meet editors but i think you can start anywhere.
that said? in my experience happiness/not-feeling-trapped-by-where-you-live is vital to writing, period. in my experience you can muddle through it but not for long and, fuck, it’s a heavy price to pay. if you’re unhappy — get out.

i’ve answered this elsewhere but short version is when i first had published work the only attention i’d had in comics was as ‘matt fraction’ which was my user name on the old warren ellis forum. so it was marketing and now it’s just this silly thing.
and it came from a telemarketer mispronouncing my last name on a call.

I loved SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST but it’s been, christ, 15 years since i went. i was there as an animator and short-film maker and the scene there for that format was crazy-vital and healthy and energizing.
