Hi! I was wondering, did you pitch the Hawkeye book or was the option to write it presented to you? And at what point did you know it was going to be a team Hawkeye book? Thank you so much for writing it. I actually remember wishing for a book about Clint and Kate working together and exploring their interpersonal dynamic and I was mad at Marvel because I thought they'd never go for such a non-traditional story line. I've never been happier to be proven wrong.

my recall on this is a bit hazy, but what i recall is this: i was asked and my first take was very Bond-ian — locales, suits, women — but never really came together in my head (i remember lobbying to get stuart i. on it, or bachalo). i pitched what is HAWKEYE 4 and 5 verbally to Tom B. and Axel A. at a retreat during a break but the form of the whole thing never arrived in my head, so I bowed out. it wasn’t true to the character, it wasn’t the character anybody recognized — certainly not me, anyway. so i cut bait.

At some point — and I literally have no idea when, why, or how — the version that you’re now reading and I had to call back and pretty much beg for the shot to re-pitch and convince everyone my schedule could handle it. At that point it was being written for David Aja and… and the Kate thing came very fast, the Steed-and-Peel of it all. The order i came up with the stories was 4 & 5, 2, 1, 3, 6. They were written 2, 1, 4, 6, 5, 7, 8.
