I love Billy Wilder.
And in the middle of October, TCM quietly (I only heard about it now, so it’s quietly) released a two-DVD set called DIRECTED BY BILLY WILDER, putting out two of his not-on-DVD-at-least-in-this-region films out at long last — FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO (which is a completely great espionage film, on par at least with Lang’s MAN HUNT) and — one of my favorite Wilders — A FOREIGN AFFAIR.
A FOREIGN AFFAIR is maybe the dirtiest movie ever made. And funniest. And it’s shot in a post-war Berlin still smoldering from the last bombs that fell. Unmissable! Unmissable I tells ya.
